Me Evraen no know if Goblin fooled, but then he give us the talk and tell us prisoners trapped in big cage house called Rivenror. Him Cliffy and him Holt go to Rivenror and me Evraen go too. Then me Evraen throw tomato at Goblin’s eyeball. Me Evraen also eat tomatos on ground, but him Holt say no do it because dirty. Dirty never stopped me Evraen before so eated it anyway.

Us go to shops to get things. Fancy people also give us coin. Potion shop was nobody there. Me Evraen tried sneaking a potion, but him Holt see and no do it. Him Holt sees everything, me thinking.

We goed over long mountain for sun come up and go down and again and again and again. Then we see big cage house Rivenror. Me Evraen hate cages and not want to go inside…but him Cliffy have big silver platter to keep me Evraen safe so Me Evraen stay close to him when fight like before!

The door in ground was locked to go inside. Me Evraen know Rivenror big cage house, so start to get the jitters real bad. When unlock door in ground, Evraen go down stairs and see two Goblins with why’d you shoot me Evraen’s in hand. So me Evraen shoot first, and make them mad, but us kill them good!

Lots of goblins everywhere in big cage house Rivenror! Also creepy big doors with breathing big things. Me Evraen no go in there because afraid I’d dead! But him Holt lead and tell where to shoot big red monsters good.

Then us see Sartanian! Him Sartanian and Holt friends, me Evraen thinks. Him old and have broken glasses because only over one eyeball.

We find other cage people too. Me Evraen let them out which me very good at. We also see big yellow sticky thingie with no brain, and find lost thingies Bryndol lost. Us kill lots of Goblins and me Evraen stabed em dead real good! Sartanian say good to be sure, even though Cliffy only want to kill a little bit sometimes.

Then us see lady chained to rock and big doggy rats come to bite us! Cliffy got bited and lady bited long time too, even after us kill them! Us go back to Bryndol and take the cage people and the lost thingies with us.

That’s a lot of talking for now and me Evraen trired. Oh! Me Evraen also drawed me up us getting the talk out of the Goblin in Bryndol stockade! Me Evraen drawed it up real good! See?image.jpg

The Story So Far: Rescue at Rivenroar (Part 2)
Where an unconventional city official presents an offer of employment

The following morning, the citizens and guards of Brindol are solemnly assessing the damage and tallying their losses from the hobgoblins’ attack. The three adventurers are recuperating from their trials at one of the remaining inns in town when a messenger named Alys arrives with a missive. The message is from Councilman Eoffram Troyas, and It is an invitation to meet with him at his office at the Brindol town hall. Holt and Cliffton realize that this is the same local official who originally sent out the call to arms for adventurers and mercenaries which led them to Brindol in the first place. Evraen, strangely drawn to the other two adventurers and curious where this will all lead, decides to join Holt and Cliffton as they prepare to meet this official.

At the town hall, the three are shown to Troyas’ office where the councilman is waiting. He greets them and offers some wine before getting directly down to business. Troyas explains that the hobgoblin attacks have been worrying the council for some time, but that the rest of the council has been unable to come to a decision on how to proceed. Troyas’ call for mercenary help was technically done without the council’s approval, but in light of the recent attack he is certain he can get enough of the rest of the council on his side if the adventurers are able to get results. The adventurers take the hint that the councilman is asking for proof of their ability to deliver. They each introduce themselves and expound on or demonstrate their respective talents. Seemingly impressed, Troyas offers them an advance on their pay and promises the rest if they can complete their mission.

Troyas then explains that the attack yesterday seems to have been a diversion. While the main hobgoblin forces attacked Brindol, a number of smaller strike teams struck into the town’s heart, pillaging a war museum called the Hall of Great Valor. The Hall housed a number of historical artifacts from the War of the Red Hand, many of which the hobgoblins made off with. Aside from this theft, the hobgoblins also kidnapped six citizens of Brindol as well as the captain of the city watch. The adventurers agree with the councilman that the hobgoblins’ goal must have been to demoralize the rest of the town by these losses, and Eoffram tells them that their main job is to rescue as many kidnapped citizens and recover as many stolen artifacts as possible. The three agree, and Eoffram lists each of the missing citizens and looted items.

Kidnapped Citizens

  • Jalissa, an elven acolyte of Ioun
  • Sertanian, the caretaker of the Hall of Great Valor
  • Mirtala, a well-liked cook
  • Zerriksa, an elderly woman and recluse with a reputation as a witch
  • Adronsius, the dwarven owner of the local alchemy and potion shop
  • Kartenix, the captain of the city watch of Brindol
  • Thurann, the 12-year-old son of Kartenix

Stolen Artifacts

  • An ornate, gilded dragoncrest helm
  • A ceremonial platinum longsword
  • A set of three shields with the Red Hand insignia, each with a charred hole near the center
  • A set of iron gauntlets with extensive filigree
  • A heraldic battle standard depicting two hands clasped in a handshake

Troyas then suggests that the adventurers might start by heading to the stockade in the town square. It seems as though one of the hobgoblin raiders was captured during the attack and is now being held prisoner while awaiting trial. Eoffram believes that this hobgoblin may be persuaded to reveal the location of the hobgoblins main camp, which is most likely where the hostages and stolen artifacts are being kept.

The Story So Far: Rescue at Rivenroar (Part 1)
Where a fellowship is formed and a legend is born

As these stories usually go, at a tavern in Brindol, three adventures meet. Two of them, Holt D`varen and Cliffton Steelheart are in town in answer to a summons for mercenary help by a local official, while the third, Evraen, is there by chance, looking for a meal. The three overhear from some of the locals how hobgoblins have been raiding caravans coming into town and putting everyone on edge. They scarcely have time to agree to work together when a group of hobgoblins and goblins burst in from the tavern’s front entrance, some carrying torches!

The citizens mostly panic and try to flee the tavern from the back entrance while the goblins lob their torches into the building. One torch breaks several bottles of liquor behind the bar, igniting a raging fire, while the three adventurers do battle with the hobgoblins and try to cover the citizens’ escape. The fire behind the bar quickly spreads during the fight, and though the goblinoids are routed, the adventurers barely have time to get out of the tavern before the building goes up in flames!

Out on the street, the adventurers see signs that theirs was not the only group of attackers in town. They quickly confer with some local guardsman about the situation—the hobgoblins have launched an assault on Brindol! While exchanging info with the guards, sounds of screams are heard from the street to the north. Chasing a group of fleeing townspeople is an ogre hitched to a wagon by a yoke. Riding the wagon are two hobgoblin archers. One of the archers is busy with the cart’s cargo—many barrels of tarry pitch. As the adventurers watch, the archer unstoppers a barrel, lights it with a torch, and pushes it to the front of the cart where the ogre can reach it. The ogre then takes the flaming cask and lobs it into a nearby building as a makeshift bomb, setting the structure alight!

The guards flee in a panic, promising to bring reinforcements. Holt knows that the ogre is a deadly foe, but notes that the cart hinders its movement. Undeterred, the party moves to engage the cart. Cliffton tries to draw the ogre’s attention, while Evraen and Holt trade fire with the archers. The party is hard pressed. Cliffton takes several savage blows, first from the casks of pitch and then from the ogre’s club as it draws into melee and the archers pepper Holt and Evraen with arrows. A few well-placed shots from Evraen’s bow fells the archers, and the torch they were using to light the barrels falls to the ground and ignites some of the spilled pitch which then spreads to the other barrels!

The ogre is too stupid to realize the danger as the party ducks to safety. The barrels begin to ignite in a series of explosions! The ogre howls and futilely tries to remove the yoke which binds him to the cart, but there is no time. All at once the remaining barrels detonate in a terrific fireball and the ogre collapses in a charred heap. In a few more moments a contingent of crossbow-wielding guards show up, stunned at the scene before them. A cheer erupts from them and other bystanders who watched the heroic battle. The sounds of fighting throughout town have diminished as well. The hobgoblins have been driven off, and the day is won! Then a woman’s cry of anguish can be be heard in the distance. Victory was not without its price.
